There was a good turnout for “Warmer Brightling #2: practical steps for householders” in Brightling Village Hall on 14th October 2025. Links to the presentations are below.

Martin Turner of Energise Sussex Coast explained the concept of a “retrofit assessment” with particular reference to older houses, and local resident Olivier Wall took us through his heat pump journey. 

The bottom line of Olivier’s presentation is that he now has an entirely electric heating system, using a heat pump plus batteries, in an older property which he is now able to keep at a very comfortable 21 degrees C.  At the same time his annual total energy costs have reduced from over £3600 to just over £1000.  He also put paid to the myth that heat pumps are noisy.  A fascinating presentation which got a lot of audience engagement.
