We cannot compete with the pagentry unfolding on our screens at the moment, but we are going to spend an hour or so marking the occasion on the 8th May. You will hear the bells start to ring around 6.30 p.m. which is your signal to join us in the Church. There will be a glass of wine (or soft drink) for you to sip whilst you mingle with others. Then, a large candle will be lit to mark the light re-appearing on VE Day itself followed by 79 other candles will be lit around the church to mark the years of peace since. If you want to light a candle, bring a lighter in case there are not enough to go round. Alan Petty will be talking about VE Day and then we finish with singing a hymn I Vow to Thee my Country. That will be the end of our ceremony, short, but meaningful.
If you want to glance back at VE75 which was cancelled due to Covid and which we put out on Zoom, then click on to the following link. The Zoom recording is not good and will probably be removed from the website soon, but it is just a reminder that we do try! You may see yourself appearing on screen.
