Forestry England has provided the following information about the current harvesting operations underway in Darwell Woods.

“The work entails clearfells required for Norway Spruce for Ips typographus tree pest control subject to statutory control under: Regulation 15 of the Official Controls (Plant Health and Genetically Modified Organisms) (England) Regulations 2019 (“The 2019 Regulations”).  

We are also improving the track/road profiles, removing dangerous (Ash-dieback) and overhanging trees and thinning some of broadleaf blocks.  

We are trying to keep the car park open to the public, but may consider closures should there be increased safety concerns. The use of the ‘Public Rights of Way’ will not be affected by contract closures.”
