It is early in the Second World War and Martin Krebbs, an eager young German officer, is given an important and ususual task: to guard and observe the Kaiser, exiled on his estate in occupied Holland. Kreggs soon finds himself drawn to the charismatic and mercurial old man, and starts to question his own Nazi loyalties. Then he falls in love with Akki – a serving maid with a dangerous double secret. He must decide if he is to do his duty by the Nazis or not, and risk the consequeneces.
The Exception is based on the novel The Kaisers’s Last Kiss written by Brightling author Alan Judd.
Alan will give a brief introductory talk about the story the novel tells and how the film came to be made.
