A message from Cllr Judy Petty:

Brightling Parish Council is looking to recruit a new Parish Clerk to replace Sam, who has been looking after us with great efficiency and good will for the past couple of years. This is a brilliant part-time, flexible job which is perfect for someone who likes to be involved in the community, as it provides an interesting insight into local matters. It is a good introductory role if you have never worked in local government before.

If you are organised, not afraid of numbers, can use basic software packages to keep up with administrative tasks whilst working from home under a flexible working hours arrangement, this could be for you.

The role is the only paid one within the Parish Council as councillors give up their time voluntarily. The current requirement is 30 hours per month; there are also 6 evening meetings a year, plus the Annual Assembly which is organised by the Parish Council.

This is being advertised locally at first, before contacting the wider clerk network.

The vacancy is substantive from the end of January 2026, with training and a thorough handover available from December 2025 onwards.

For further details, please contact Sam at clerk@brightling-pc.gov.uk
