An announcement from Isabel Lloyd

[Updated 15 November 2024: this event is now sold out. Email isbeloid@gmail.com if you would like to go on the waiting list. Please note: this is not a hedgelaying workshop – the technique demonstrated incorporates some elements of laying, but is not suitable for anyone who wishes to learn the traditional craft of pleaching]

On November 28th, those interested can join a free workshop at Limden Brook Farm in Etchingham, looking at a new(ish) technique for hedgerow regeneration that is eligible for Farming in Protected Landscapes funding, has high wildlife benefits, but is also quite a bit quicker and easier than traditional hedge-laying. The results are also pretty much browse-proof, which is a plus!

Landowners, contractors, farmers, conservationists: would you like to learn about a new way of managing our local hedgerows?

Dead-hedgelaying is a technique developed here in the High Weald. It:

  • •  Creates instant wildlife habitat
  • •  Is easy to do, and doesn’t require specialist equipment
  • •  Doesn’t require brash to be removed or burnt
  • •  Increases hedgerow carbon-capture
  • •  Is eligible for FiPL finding

The FREE workshop will include:

  • •  Tour of hedges that have been treated this way in previous years
  • •  Live demonstration of the technique and tools used
  • •  Explanation of environmental and economic benefits
  • •  Advice on applying for funding
  • •  Plus free lunch and hot drinks!
  • 28 November, 10.45am-2pm, Limden Brook Farm, Etchingham
