Yes, it’s on again – 14th, 15th and 16th July 2017 – in the Brightling Park Walled Garden of course, and here is an update from Gardie:
Preparations for this year’s Music Festival are progressing rather well. All the headline acts are booked.
On Friday evening we have Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey with his new all female band.
On Saturday it is “ABC” headed by the legendary Martin Fry. They have already sold out for their concert in The Albert Hall in April so we feel very privileged that they are coming to Brightling.
The weekend will finish on Sunday with 1980’s star Howard Jones.
We are still firming up on the support acts. We already have Beverley Craven, Ultimate Elton and The Rocket Band, The Illegal Eagles, Talk in Code, who were so popular last year, and The King’s Parade, who were described by Boris Johnson as London’s best buskers!
Tickets are already selling fast. However we are keeping a selection back for Brightling residents who are again being offered freebies. So if you live in the village of Brightling (this includes Oxley’s Green, Hollingrove, Twelve Oaks and Cackle Street), and would like to come please email email@example.com
It is probable that it will be a sell out this year so I am afraid that it is unlikely any free tickets will be available to those who do not live in the above mentioned area. I hate saying no so please don’t ask!
Picnic to celebrate the national Big Lunch day originally set up to keep the spirit of Jubilee Day going. Geoffrey and Jane Beard are donating the cricket club day they purchased at the Auction of Promises for the event and hope that as many villagers as possible will come with a picnic and chairs to enjoy a lunchtime/afternoon of harmony! (12-3 approx.) FREE EVENT – you provide for your needs. Henry & Helena have very kindly agreed to the event taking place here and with their help we have Plan B should the weather be poor. For parking, follow the arrows which will be put up on the day: remember the track is bumpy in places so leave your open topped sports car at home….
A reminder to report utility problems via this web site. So far we have one report – about brown water. If we are going to try and hold utility companies to account, we need to build up a solid database of problems – with specific dates and times.
As you may have read in the Messenger, I am stepping down from organising Brightling Market and hoped to find someone to take over from me. No-one has come forward to be the market organiser, but I am pleased to say that someone has offered to run the Market Cafe.
Connie Alderson Blench was brought up in Brightling and now lives in Hastings. She has offered to run the Cafe as a business venture, keeping any profits from the cafe, but doesn’t want to organise the rest of the market.
Also, some of our stallholders won’t be returning this year: Gussy (Veg) wants to concentrate on developing a cut flower business, and Lighthouse Bakery have just got too popular and busy to spare the time. However, we will still have Judy’s cakes, Jo’s meat and Chris & Stella’s pies.
So we need to think about how we can help the market keep going in the future. Connie will make all the cakes herself but will need 2 volunteers to help her each month in the cafe.
Please come to the Village Hall at
10am-11am on Saturday 25th February to …
. Give your views and suggestions
. Meet Connie
. and stay on after the meeting for coffee, cake and a catch-up with friends and neighbours in true ‘market style’ (11am-Noon)
If you love coming to Brightling Market and want to see it continue being an important part of village life, please DO come.
In the meantime, if you can help Connie run the cafe at one of the markets, please let me know which would be your preferred month(s).
