950 years ago, already weary from fighting an invading Viking force King Harold and his men trekked over 300 miles south from York to Battle to face the Norman army.
To mark this anniversary an intrepid band of warriors are making this journey on horse and on foot between Sunday 25th September and Friday 14th October. They will arrive in Brightling at 5.30pm on Thursday 13th October on their last stop over before marching into Battle on the morning of the anniversary.
Come and cheer the soldiers on as the ride past Brightling Church and then come back to the Village Hall and join us for a small complimentary beer and a chance to meet the re-enactors and discover more about their historic journey.
Horse riders: If you are interested in joining the re-enactors on their ride into Battle on the morning of the 14th October (we’ll be leaving at around 8-8.30am) please email firstname.lastname@example.org
